Superted!

Those of you who were lucky enough to watch Superted as a child may enjoy this. If not, you probably won’t. Or maybe you will. Who knows.

Have you watched Superted since you have grown up? Probably not, or if you have, you probably didn’t realise how ridiculous the intro is. I suggest that you watch the intro here to remind yourself or hear it for the first time.

The whole point of a childrens tv program is that it doesn’t have to make sense. Examples of TV programs which make no sense:

  • Noddy – Toys do not have their own towns
  • Bananas in pyjamas – Bananas can not talk and do not wear clothes, let alone pyjamas
  • I could write hundreds more, just think of your favourite childrens tv program and think of a reason that it is not realistic.

Anyway, Superted feels the need to explain every detail of how Superted became the bear he is today. I just think it is ridiculous, the excuses that the creators have come up with.

“Yeah, so how can we explain the fact that he is alive?”

“Well, what about if we say an alien came down from space with the gift of giving life to useless teddy bears. And let’s make him spotty, just for a laugh.”

“Brilliant! Now, how can we fit into this perfectly crafted story line the fact that the teddy is super.”

“Well, what if the alien takes the bear to Mother Nature.”

“There’s a flaw there. Where does Mother Nature live?”

“On a cloud obviously!”

“GOLD!!”

“And then Mother Nature gives Superted the power to be super.”

“Genius. Somebody give this man £1000000 for his superior mind.”

If you do feel the need to explain every aspect of a character, couldn’t the alien just have given Superted super powers? You could cut out Mother Nature all together.
